Is Bridgestone coming back to F1?
Bridgestone is tipped to return to Formula 1 – but only in 2029. Earlier this year, the sport’s governing body launched a tender process to determine the next contract to supply all F1 teams with tyres until 2027, with an option for an additional year after that. The new range of Pirelli tyres for the 2026 Formula 1 season was revealed this morning at the Yas Marina circuit in Abu Dhabi, where the Italian firm is currently hosting a group test with all the teams.

Ishibashi named his company Bridgestone due to it being a literal translation of his last name. They are known in Formula One for providing tyres from 1997 to 2010 (and two races in the latter half of the 1970s), winning 175 races (116 as the sole supplier). Anticipating the future potential of tires for passenger cars and the international development of the business, founder Shojiro Ishibashi used an English translation of his surname for the name of the company.
