Why are tweels so expensive?

Michelin tweel tires are expensive because they use advanced engineering and materials that make them superior to traditional pneumatic tires. The michelin x® tweel™ ssl assemblies have a prorated limited warranty based on tread wear within the first 3 years from date of purchase. The usable michelin x® tweel™ ssl tread depth is the original tread down to the level of 4/32nds (3mm) of tread remaining.DISCOVER A FEW MICHELIN X® TWEEL™ RANGES Designed for hard surface traction, airless radial tires for skid steers and light construction equipment. Constent footprint, with tread designed to last 2-3 times longer than a pneumatic tire at equal tread depth, and capable of being retreaded.

Who makes Tweels?

The Tweel (a portmanteau of tire and wheel) is an airless tire design developed by the French tire company Michelin. Its significant advantage over pneumatic tires is that the Tweel does not use a bladder full of compressed air, and therefore cannot burst, leak pressure, or become flat. Tweels aren’t just easier on the operator – they also wear better than regular tires, increase fuel economy with less rolling resistance, and are gentler on turf. With a wear life that is up to 3 times longer than a regular pneumatic tire, it’s budget friendly in both time & cost savings down the road. The Tweel provides noticeably better stability on side hills and in wet soggy conditions. When conventional tires break traction they tend to kind of dig a hole due to the pressure concentrated in the center of the tire, whereas if the Tweels break traction they tend to leave more of a flat slide mark.

Can you retread tweels?

Currently, the TWEEL SSL is the only TWEEL capable of retreading. Retreadability will vary with usage history. While we have seen examples of TWEELS being retreaded successfully up to 5 times, Michelin’s warranty on a TWEEL retread is only for the first retread. The Michelin X Tweel SSL assemblies have a prorated limited warranty based on tread wear within the first 3 years from date of purchase. The usable Michelin X Tweel SSL tread depth is the original tread down to the level of 4/32nds (3mm) of tread remaining.
