What is the tyre pressure for 235 55R18?
I am swapping to 235/55 R18 V 104s. The ETRTO load inflation tables for these tyres would put the pressures at around 33/22 psi F/R unladen (22 psi minimum recommended) and 33/29 psi laden. Medium-sized vehicles such as SUVs and crossovers usually need a slightly higher tyre pressure, typically between 35 to 40 PSI. This supports the additional weight and size of these vehicles, ensuring stability and control. Each vehicle has its own specifications for tyre pressure, but most fall between 28 and 36 PSI (pounds per square inch) however this could be greater especially if you carry extra load in your vehicle or run on larger diameter wheels (there is usually another pressure recommendation for these or the placard).
What is the difference between 225 55R18 and 235 55R18?
Your new tires have a tread width that is 10mm more narrow than your old tires That is ~4 tenths of an inch. They also are 11mm smaller in overall diameter (235–225 = 10mm x 55% = 5. As a general rule, you want replacement tires that are within 3 percent of the diameter (height) measurement of the tires originally on your vehicle. The 3% rule states that when replacing tires, the new tire’s diameter should not differ from the original by more than 3%. This guideline helps maintain proper vehicle performance, safety system functionality, and speedometer accuracy.
