Do motorhomes need special tires?
RV tires must bear significantly more weight than those of a passenger vehicle, and as such, motorhomes use tires specifically designed for this type of transportation. DO RV AND CAMPER TIRES NEED TO BE BALANCED? The short answer – Yes. Unbalanced tires can cause several issues that can affect your overall travel experience. These issues create not only inconveniences but also unnecessary expenses.
What ply are motorhome tires?
For larger Class A motorhomes, it is indicated on the sidewall by a single alphabetic letter – typically G (14 ply) or H (16 ply). The higher the letter, or the number of internal plies, the stronger the tire. The D in 75D15 stands for diagonal or bias ply, indicating that the tire’s internal fabric layers are diagonally arranged, while the R in 75R15 stands for radial, meaning that the tire’s internal fabric layers are arranged radially from the center.
What is the 105% rule on tires?
The 105% rule says that the external rim width of your wheel should be at least 105% of your tire’s actual measured width. This ratio allows the airflow to remain attached as it moves from the tire onto the rim, reducing drag and making your bike more aerodynamic. As a general rule, you want replacement tires that are within 3 percent of the diameter (height) measurement of the tires originally on your vehicle. The 3% tire rule is a guideline for upsizing tires. It recommends keeping the new tire’s diameter within 3% of the original to avoid affecting performance and safety.
What is the tyre pressure for a 225/75r16 motorhome?
Our tyres are the 225/75 R16 CP 116Q and the recommended pressures fully laden would be 3-3. Tire pressure increases when the tires are used, and for this reason, following the vehicle and tire brands’ recommendation is crucial. Typically, if the recommended pressure levels are 35, then the tires should not use more than 40 psi. More than that will result in the before mentioned problems. We don’t recommend running your tires at max pressure if you can help it. For your safety, it’s essential that you never exceed the maximum load or tire pressure that is stated on the sidewall.Adjust your cold tire where you want it (like 35psi) and then reset the TPMS in the MID. Then you’ll only get alert when pressure drops far enough from that value (around 25 psi). And yes, 39-40 psi is too high and will give you a rougher ride.We don’t recommend running your tires at max pressure if you can help it. For your safety, it’s essential that you never exceed the maximum load or tire pressure that is stated on the sidewall.
