What is the easiest way to put a tire on a rim?
Lay the rim on a flat surface with the tire sitting on top. Angle part of the lower bead under the rim and step on the tire to pop the bead into place. Add more lubricant and angle part of the upper bead under the rim. Use a pry bar to leverage the rest of the bead underneath the rim. I’ve been using wd40 over soap for about the last 10 years mounting tires. Clean the rim with it. Clean the bead with it, spray more and mount it with a match, or use compressed air. It’s more expensive then soap and water, but in my experience works much better.Mounting a tire on a rim with WD-40 or hair spray or brake clean or even gasoline will work in a pinch!
What causes a tire to not seat on a rim?
Sometimes, the tire is too stiff or too flimsy. Sometimes, the rim’s shape keeps the tire bead from easily popping into its seat. Typically, as long as there are no defects in the rim or tire, all that’s happening is the air isn’t getting into the valve as quickly as it’s escaping from a gap between the tire and rim. Overinflated Tires Much like an overinflated balloon, tires with too much pressure can pop. While overinflated tires are more likely to create flats, they can cause complete blowouts if put under enough stress. This is especially true when combined with other factors—like excessive heat and aged rubber.
